Herman Lee Massey

Herman Lee Massey, 91, died Monday, October 3, 2022 in his Roanoke Rapids home.

The son of Paul Green Massey and Alice Elizabeth Harrison Massey, he was born on April 28, 1931 in Halifax County.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.  He loved his church, and enjoyed working outside.  Mr. Massey retired from ExxonMobil and AmeriGas.  Following his retirement, he worked part-time for Daughtridge Gas Company.   He enjoyed farming, and loved cutting grass.  He also enjoyed card games with his friends Barbara Barrett, Marie Keeter and Jeanette Clary.

He served in the US Marine Corps. during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Massey is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Deobrah Massey Miles and Alan; grandchildren, Joshua Lewis Miles and Brandy Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Jordan Clay, Dylan Clay, Ayden Jenkins, Tristan McCloud, Jasper McCloud; sister, Stella Mullins; and his close friend, Barbara Barrett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Massey; and brother, Grady Massey.

Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Randy Martin presiding.  Interment will follow in Quankie Baptist Church cemetery.
