Haywood Ray Nelson, 80, died Friday, September 16, 2022, in ECU North Hospital in Roanoke Rapids,

Haywood was born in Halifax County, NC, May 02, 1942, son to the late Frank and Gladys Elizabeth Nowell Nelson.  Haywood loved the outdoors, especially, coon hunting and squirrel hunting. In addition to his parents, Haywood was preceded in death by his daughter, Tracy Nelson Miles; sisters, Earl Dean Allen and Elaine Hunt. Also preceding in death, is his grandson, T.J. Nelson.

Surviving is his sons, Thad Nelson and long-time friend, Michelle Gray, and Tim Nelson and wife, Patty, both of Roanoke Rapids; daughters, Tammy Nelson Strickland and husband, Ty, and Tina Nelson Lillibridge and husband, James, all, also of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, Aaron Strickland, Jaime Strickland Calderon, Karl Spillane, Kaci Spillane, Ashleigh Cole, Katelin Thacker, Timmy Nelson, Mary Beth Nelson, Shellie Nelson, Corey Lillibridge. Also surviving are 25 great grandchildren.

The family will have a gathering of friends Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 6-7:30 pm at 97 Miles Ln., Halifax, NC
