Grace Virginia Nance Grant

Grace Virginia Nance Grant, 101, of 430 Jefferson Street, Roanoke Rapids, died Thursday, November 18, 2010, at her home.

Mrs. Grant was a member of First Christian Church and the Apostles Bible School class. She was a graduate of Statesville School of Nursing, Statesville, North Carolina, and a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. She was the chief nurse anesthetist at Roanoke Rapids Hospital and Halifax Regional Medical Center, having retired in 1974.

Mrs. Grant was born February 1, 1909, to the late William Richard Nance and Nora Van Pelt Nance in China Grove, North Carolina. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Winbourne Jack E. Grant who died July 24, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Pauline Hopkins, Eudean Gabriel, Mae Bradshaw, and Cordie Campbell; her brothers: Marvin Nance, Richard Nance, Jr. Claude Nance and Dowd Nance.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Special thanks is extended to her faithful caregivers and special friends: Ruth Hale, Faye Spence, Mary Mason, Nan Davis , and Tom Pair of Community Home Care and Hospice.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service on Saturday, November 20, 2010, from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 21, 2010, at the funeral home at 2:00 P.M. conducted by Mark Wesner, Minister. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
