Gladys Vinson Wall

Gladys Vinson Wall, 91 of Creekside Court, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at her home.

Gladys was born May 28, 1921 in Suffolk, VA to the late John Q. Adams Vinson and Bertha Mae Barnes Vinson. She was also preceded in death by her husband: Pete Wall; brothers: Elijah and Luther Vinson; sisters: Judy Nadine Tuck and Martha L. Polk.

Gladys was educated in Halifax County Schools and New Hope School.. She helped raise and take care of her brothers and sisters during the depression. She also took care of her grandfather Vinson and Grandmother Barnes until their deaths. Gladys was also a loving and sweet lady. She loved her family, friends and her animals.

She is survived by her son: Calvin Cooley of Albuquerque, NM; daughter: Doretha Caudler of Hope Mill, NC; brother: John E. Vinson and his wife Rachel of Roanoke Rapids; half-brother: John Green of Roanoke Rapids Sisters: Linda Coker and her husband Jesse and Eunice Widener both of Gaston, Dorothy Bryant and her husband Jimmy of Memphis, TN; half-sisters: Seretha Vinson and Peggy Muse both of Roanoke Rapids; cousin: Virginia Bishop of Roanoke Rapids; and a special caregiver Glenda Poythress of Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Bobby Whitby officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 P.M. Friday, August 10, 2012 at the funeral home.
