Gene Russell Conner

DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE VISITATION AND FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE AT HOCKADAY FUNERAL HOME.  FOR THE SAFETY OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS, FOLLOWING THE SERVICE THE BURIAL WILL BE PRIVATE WITH ONLY FUNERAL HOME PERSONNEL GOING TO THE CEMETERY.

Gene Russell Conner, 66, passed away Wednesday January 19, 2022. He was born September 18, 1955, in Halifax County to the late Emmitt Conner and Hattie Matthews Conner. He was a loving husband, brother, uncle, father, and grandfather.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean Tart Conner, stepdaughter Michelle Gums, and granddaughter Tiffany Faison, sister, Priscilla Juanita Conner and nephew, Dennis Ray Davis.

He is survived by his stepdaughters Cheryl Clary and Sharon Durance Jenkins, and grandchildren Buddy James Poythress III, Ashleigh Ashburn, Bryan Ashburn, Lauren Ashburn, Shane Henderson, Robert Henderson, Sherry Hux Bankert, Timothy Hux Jr., Charles Hux, Scotty Livesay, Katlyn Gums Wright, Michael Gums, Morgan Gums, and 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Bobby Clark and husband Danny Clark of Richmond VA, Rebie Ferrell of Myrtle Beach SC, Arlene Coffey and husband Ray Coffey of Shalimar FLA, Beverly Davis and husband Parker Davis of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Kathy Denton of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and brother Shelton Conner and wife Betty Conner of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Also surviving are his nephews Richard Clark, Keith Ferrell, Boyd Coffey, Bryan Coffey, and nieces Beth Dodson, April Conner, Heather Bailey, Meleanie Conner, Lynndsey Denton and Teagan Denton, and several great nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022, in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids, at 12:00 pm and will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service one hour prior to the service beginning at 11:00 am.
