Frederick John Rehner, Jr.

d. October 13, 2019

Frederick John Rehner Jr., left us after a long battle with cancer, on October 13, 2019.  Fred was born February 4, 1932, the son of Frederick John Rehner, Sr and Helen Rehner, of Mount Clemmons, Michigan.

He leaves behind a wife of 60 years, Helen “Chris” Howell Rehner; a daughter, Kimberly Gail Rehner of Nashville, NC; half brothers, Mark Rehner of Colorado Springs, CO, and Bill Morton of East Tawas, MI.

Fred lived a long life of service to his country and the State of North Carolina.  At the age of 18 he joined the Army, where he served as a paratrooper.  Aftera time of working at General Motors, he wasn’t satisfied, so he joined the US Air Force and served 4 years.  In 1961 he went to work for the NC Dept. of Corrections at Caledonia Prison as a guard.  He worked himself up through the ranks to Superintendent at Halifax Prison.  Afterward, he went to work at Nash Prison in Momeyer, where he retired as Asst. Superintendent of Custody, with 34 years of service.

Fred was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.  He also loved to fly model airplanes, and as a young man he enjoyed driving race cars.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 12:45 pm Tuesday at New Hope United Methodist Church.  The memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm in the church sanctuary, with Pastor Sue Owens presiding.
