Franklin Delano Mountford

Franklin Delano Mountford, 92 of Weldon, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Franklin was born on March 3, 1933, in Halifax County. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Mountford, parents Rufus Mountford & Ione Mountford, Son Mark Mountford, Brothers William “Buckeye” Mountford & Rufus Mountford, Sisters Mariam “Bug” Chitty & Dorothy Mountford-Smith.

Surviving include his son Michael Mountford, his grandchildren Amanda Moore & husband Wade, Phillip Mountford & wife Amanda, and Chase Mountford, and his great grandchildren Kingston Moore, Jordan Mountford, Alexander Moore and Aubrey Mountford.

Franklin was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather and great grandfather. He served in the military as an MP for the United States Army. He also worked in the Oil business for Mcgee Oil & New Dixie Oil. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. President of the Fire association of NC and member of the Weldon Fire Department. He was an Eagle Scout, coached baseball, enjoyed fishing, and was a very kind man fixing furnaces for his friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 prior to the service at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service. Family and friends may sign the online register by visiting www.hockadayfs.com.
