Frances Lewis Thorne

Frances Lewis Thorne, 104, of 149 Woodland died Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Kindred Healthcare in Roanoke Rapids.

Mrs. Thorne was born December 24, 1907 in Halifax County to the late Issac Lewis, Sr. and Myrtle Shearin Lewis. She was also preceded in death by her husband Robert Thorne; her son: Robert Thorne, Jr.; her son-in-law: Ed Massey; her sister: Dorothy Mohorn and her husband Zack; her brother: Issac Lewis, Jr.

Mrs. Thorne was a devoted Christian, who enjoyed being active member of Park Baptist Church. She treasured her family the most. She loved people, family gatherings and traveling. She was a buyer for Belks for many years and a House Director at Meredith College for 25 years.

She is survived by her daughter: Barbara Massey of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren: Denene Lofland and her husband Lee, James Moose Massey and his wife Beverly and Phillip Massey, Sr. and his wife Beth; great grandchildren: Chris Fowler and his wife Stephanie, LeeAnn Hamm and her husband Craig, Connor Massey, Phillip Wayne Massey, Jr. and Ali Massey; a loving niece: Dawn Carr.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 6, 2012 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Rick Gaskins officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 9:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the funeral home and other times at the home.
