Esther Hawkins Arrington, 96, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Carolina Rest Home surrounded by her family.
Esther was born September 9, 1915 in Halifax County to the late Jack E. Hawkins and Eugenia H. Hawkins. She was a member of Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church where she was the church historian and a faithful choir member for many years, and worked in the Patterson Mills as a cloth inspector. She also was a proud member of the Roanoke Rapids Chapter 2332 United Daughters of the Confederacy. In addition to her parents, Esther is preceded in death by her husband, George E. Arrington; brother, Edward D. Hawkins, Sr. and her nephew, Edward D. Hawkins, Jr.
Surviving is her niece, Janice H. Pittman and husband, Vernon of Roanoke Rapids; niece-in-law, Deborah B. Hawkins of Roanoke Rapids; great niece, Deborah Lynn Hawkins of Durham; three great nephews, Edward Kevin Hawkins and wife, Michelle of Roanoke Rapids, Randy Pittard and wife, Debbie of Zebulon, and Mike Pittard and wife, Jean of Roanoke Rapids. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends, Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service, who is handling arrangements, from 7-8:30 pm.
Rev. Sid Collins will conduct funeral services Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Hawkins Chapel United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
