Elizabeth “Betsy” Carlisle

Elizabeth “Betsy” Maria Vinson Sumner Carlisle, 84, of Roanoke Rapids formerly of Jackson passed away Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Hampton Manor.

Betsy was born June 4, 1940, in Halifax County to the late Luther George Vinson and Bessie Evelyn Vann Vinson. She was also preceded in in death by her husbands, Tug Sumner and Danny Carlisle and her son Jeff Sumner.

Betsy attended Jackson Baptist Church regularly and taught Sunday School for years and delivered meals on wheels. Betsy loved going to the beach and the mountains. After her husband Tug passed away, she married Danny Carlisle, a co-worker at Carolina Telephone. Danny brought laughter and love back into her life until she lost him to cancer. The best part is she gained his daughters Cheryl and Tammy who treated me like I was their mother. Don’t grieve for me, be happy I am going to see all my loved ones again.

Betsy is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Poarch and Tammy Shaw and her husband Craig; her grandchildren, Caroline Owen and Tommy, Harley and Kelly Barnes and Charlie Sumner; her great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Colten Owen and Everly and Harlow Barnes.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 24, 2024, in Jackson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 P.M. at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.
