Elaine Ruth Hess Whitley, 90, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Liberty Commons in Weldon.

Mrs. Whitley was born in Baltimore, MD, January 7, 1924, to the late Jacob Hess and Mable Hess. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church where she was the church secretary for many years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitley was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Whitley; two sons, Michael and James Whitley and her brother, James P. Hess.

Surviving are her grandchildren, Courtney Whitley Cain and husband, Jason, and Brian Whitley. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Bailey Cain, Lynlee Cain, Brandon Whitley and Jacob Whitley.

Rev. Dr. Marjorie Holm will conduct a graveside service at Cedarwood Cemetery Sunday, July 27, 2014, at 2:00. The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service from 1-2 pm, one hour prior to the graveside service.
