Effie Mae Taylor Babb Etheridge, 80, died Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Hampton Manor in Gaston, NC.

Effie was born in Roanoke Rapids, September 2, 1936, to the late Bud Taylor and Hattie Mae Harris Taylor. She was a loving mother, grandmother and wife who loved dancing and shopping. In addition to her parents, Effie was preceded in death by her husbands, Alton Louis Babb, Sr. and Major Gordon Etheridge; brother, Edward Taylor and her granddaughter, Brittany Kaye Smith and infant sister, Mary Francis.

Surviving are her son, Alton Louis Babb, Jr. and wife, Nancy of Halifax; daughters, Marie Babb Light and husband, Jerry and Jeanie Babb Smith and husband, Kevin, both of Roanoke Rapids; brothers, James Taylor, Curtis Ray Taylor and Bud Junior Taylor, all of Roanoke Rapids; sister, Shirley Floyd and husband, Richard of Roanoke Rapids. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Stephanie Light Burkee, Jarrod Alton Light and Ashley Nicole Smith.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Friday, November 25, 2016 from 7-9 pm. Rev. Randy Martin will conduct funeral services Saturday, November 26, 2016 in the chapel at Hockaday at 2:00 pm.
