Edward “Ed” Carlton Smith, 85, of Halifax passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2021at home.
Ed was born June 28, 1935 in Virginia to the late Willis Jackson Smith, Sr. and Nannie Wood Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Willis Jackson “Billy” Smith, Jr.
Ed was a member of Community Center Baptist Church. He graduated from Aurelian Springs High School. Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, loved gardening, hunting and fishing. Ed loved working and retired from Rightmyer Machine Rentals with over Fifty years of service.
Ed is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Doris Grant Smith; his children, Michael “Mike” Smith (Elsie) and Mary Susan Smith Herbert (Bob); his grandchildren, Debra LeAnna Bryant Mead (Darrell), Michael Chase Campbell (Steven), Sydney Smith and Torie Ladendorf (Jonathan); his great-grandchildren, Parker Mead and Nathan Mead.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 2, 2021 in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Jim Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 2:45 P.M. prior to the funeral at the funeral home.
Due to CDC recommendations for COVID-19, (social distancing is encouraged). The service will be recorded and posted to Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Services facebook page after the service.
