Edith King Barnes, 90, of 115 Clearfield Drive, Apt. 24 died Monday, October 19, 2009 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Barnes was born October 20, 1918 in Brunswick County, VA. She was a loving devoted Christian mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She is survived by her daughter: Connie Martin Gommer of Roanoke Rapids; Eight grandchildren; Sixteen great grandchildren; Six great great grandchildren; Dear friend Betty High; Numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two children: Rose Marie Tolison, Tony Martin. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Wayne Marshall and Rev. Kenneth Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 pm Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the funeral home and other times at the home of her niece Yvonne Coyne, 104 Appleton Drive. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 106 Driftwood Lane, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
