Doris Balmer Sewell

Doris Balmer Sewell, 91, died Monday, April 11, 2016, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Sewell was born, March 14, 1925, in Halifax County to the late Robert L. Balmer and Mary Johnson Balmer. She loved going to Nags Head with her late husband, J.C., where they enjoyed fishing together. She loved cooking and sewing and through her joy of sewing, she would make the family shirts and suits. She especially loved working outside in her flower gardens. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sewell was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence J.C. Sewell; sister, Helen Drewery; nephew, Bobby Drewery and her granddaughter, Andrea Lamb.

Surviving are her children, Kirk Sewell and wife, Dawn, of Beckley West Virginia, Annette Wilkins and husband, Bobby, of Ormond Beach, FL, and Mike Sewell and wife, Cindy, of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, David, Michael, Kelly, Mark, Jerry, Terry, Donna, Charles, Brian, Beth, Robin and Angie. Also surviving are 27 great grandchildren, 1 great- great grandchild and her niece, Judi Drewery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service from 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 14, 2016, in the chapel at Hockaday beginning at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids.
