Dexter Allton Boyd

Dexter Allton Boyd, 96 of Gaston, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at Ecu North Hospital on Sunday February 1, 2026. Dexter was born on January 14, 1930, in Jayess, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents Sammie and Maude Boyd, brother Sammie Edrie Boyd and sisters Luola Craft, Oneida Alexander, Norene Roberts, Hulene Etheridge.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Lois Marie Henley Boyd, son Dexter Allton Boyd Jr. (Minnie), daughter Tracy Lynn Boyd, granddaughter Tammy Renee Boyd Brackin (Adam), great-grandchildren Madelyn Ellen Brackin, Adam William Brackin Jr., sister Dorthy Shaw, many nieces and nephews, and special friends Phillip Moncure, Robert Beard, Donell Hansome, Jesse & Sara Patton, Emily Patton

Dexter was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He served his country in the Untied States Army, was a member of First Baptist Church of Gaston where he served as a deacon and a member of the Gaston Lions Club. Dexter enjoyed NASCAR, watching wrestling and working in his vegetable garden.

The family will receive friends and family on Saturday February 7, from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service and a memorial service will follow at 4:00pm in the Chapel with the Dr. Jullian R. Mills Sr. officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that you make a donation in memory of Dexter to the First Baptist Church of Gaston 235 Roanoke Rapids Road Gaston, NC.
