David Gene Wheeler

David Gene Wheeler, 52, of Halifax, North Carolina, died March 21, 2011, at Guardian Care Nursing Home in Roanoke Rapids after a lingering illness.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Gene Wheeler, and resided in Halifax at 79 Bradley Drive with his mother, Marguerite Bryant Wheeler.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Terry W. Davis and brother-in-law, Ricky Davis, of Roanoke Rapids; a brother: Richard Keith, of Sunnydale Trailer Court, Roanoke Rapids, and an older brother, Shane Wheeler, and his sister-in-law, Sybil Wheeler, of Asheville, N. C. He also leaves behind several nephews and nieces to cherish his memory as they all loved him dearly; Richard Wheeler, William Bill Wheeler, Kevin Davis and his fiance, Ashley of Petersburg, Virginia, Erica Davis Medlin, Carl Hargrave, and his adopted nephew, Andrew, and several great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

Services will be held at the Halifax Baptist Church on Prussia Street Saturday, March 26, at 2:00 P.M. conducted by Rev. Carl Pittard. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall from 1:00 to 1:45 P. M. prior to the service..

The family appreciates the care and patience he received from all the staff and employees of Guardian Care Nursing Home, and Dr. Miller.

David served with KBR in Baghdad, Iraq in year 2005 as an independent contractor and worked with the Kurdish people and saw many interesting sites and customs. He lived in Atlanta, Georgia, for 10 years and Morehead City, N. C. recently; he loved the ocean and fishing..
