David Wayland Bass

David Wayland Bass, 77, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died Monday, August 1. 2011, at Central Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, Virginia.

Mr. Bass was born April 24, 1934, in Northampton County to the late Wayland D. Bass and Lena Matthews Bass. Also preceding him in death were his brother, Herman Bass and his sister, Lily Paul.

He is survived by his sons: Danny Bass and wife, Brenda, of Farmville, Virginia, David Wayne Bass, of Nottoway, Virginia, and Andrew Bass of Pennsylvania; his daughter: Cheryl Brockwell and husband, Chris, of Amelia, Virginia; his brother, James Bass and wife, Barbara, of Richmond; and his sisters: Maggie Bass Turner of Roanoke Rapids and Nita Bass Spence of Richmond, and devoted friend, Irene Bass; twelve grandchildren: Amy, Kelly, David, Elvis, Tiffany, Tabitha, Dakota, Noah, Montana, Destiny, Chase, and Kaylee; great=grandchild: Anaya.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 4, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service which is handling the arrangements. Pastor Mike Little will officiate and burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 and on Thursday from 12 noon to 1:30 prior to the funeral service..
