David Ray Barnes

David Ray Barnes, 65, of Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday, March 2, 2019 in his home following a period of declining health.

He was born August 7, 1953 in Halifax County, a son of William Harvey and Betty Virginia Woodruff Barnes, both of whom preceded him in death.  A brother, Bobby Barnes, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Barnes served our country in the US Navy.  He was a member of Harvest Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church; and worked at Georgia Pacific for 29 years before retiring from Kennametal.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Sue Garner Barnes; sons, Jerry Wayne Barnes and wife Tina, Stephen Lee Barnes and wife Beverly; brother, Jerry Barnes; grandchildren, Ashley Hampton, Ryan Barnes, Cassie Barnes and Cody Barnes; and a sister-in-law, Ellen Barnes.

The Barnes family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:30 pm Tuesday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service, and at other times at the residence.

Mr. Barnes' funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.  Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
