Corey Allen Johnson

Corey Allen Johnson, 20, of Gaston, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018.

Corey was born December 7, 1997 in Nash County.  He was a kind and compassionate young man and will truly be missed by all who loved him.  He was our sunshine on a rainy day.  Corey cared deeply for those he loved, but sometimes had a hard time expressing the depth of his emotions.  His loss is heartbreaking; we find comfort in knowing he is with his loving granddaddy, John, who cared so much about him.  He left his mark on this world, for he was ambitious with anything he set forth to accomplish.

Corey loved his family and spending time with his mother Cindy; fishing each and every chance he had, and hanging out with his friends, Tyler Cain, Mark Warren, and his first love, Tear Whitby.  He also loved the outdoors, and taking long walks through the woods with his beloved dog, Milo.  He cherished the time he had with his granddaddy John and Uncle Rick.  They were his world even after their passing.

His mother, Cindy, loves him and he knew she would do anything to see him smile.  Cindy; his sister, Brittany; grandma Yvonne Christenbury; and aunt, Lisa Vowell stood by his side until the very end.  His last moments he was surrounded by love.

Survivors include his mother and step-father Cindy Christenbury Birdsong and Eddie; sister, Brittany Odom and husband William; half-siblings Mallory and David Johnson; grandmother, Yvonne Christenbury; uncles, Johnny Christenbury and Sam Shearin; aunts, Lisa Vowell and husband Tony, Marie Allen, Laura Alston and husband Tony; niece, Lucy Lee Odom; cousin, Josie Christenbury; as well as numerous other family, friends and cousins.  His grandparents, John C. Christenbury and David and Betty Johnson, all preceded Corey in death.

The family will receive friends from 7 – 9 pm Thursday at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service; and at other times at the residence of his grandmother, Yvonne Christenbury.

The funeral service for Corey will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, November 30, 2018 in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.  Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
