Clarence Sledge, Jr.

July 15, 1939 — April 2, 2025

Clarence Sledge Jr. went home to be with his Savior on April 2, 2025, at his daughter Kimberly’s home, peacefully. He was a loving father, Papa, and friend, he will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Clarence was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Fowler Sledge; his son, Michael Sledge; His granddaughter, Stephanie Nicole Sledge; his brothers, WC Sledge and Earl Holt; and his parents, Eva Sledge and Lawrence Sledge.

Clarence loved camping, fishing, gardening and the outdoors. He was a hardworking family man, Clarence was a devoted husband of 60 years and loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clarence worked on the farm in his younger years and retired from Smithfield.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Thacker (John); his son, Lee Sledge (Debra); and his daughter, Angie Trinneer (Michael). Clarence’s legacy also lives on through his grandchildren: Chris Thacker (Ashley), Steven Thacker (Katelin), Anthony Thacker (Monica), Zachary Clay, Brianna Clay and Bionca Van Dyke. He is further survived by his great-grandchildren: Luke Thacker, Jacob Thacker, Hunter Thacker, Adrianna Thacker, Harper Thacker, Kenzleigh Thacker, Kennedy Thacker, and Ryker Thacker.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the team at Gentiva Hospice, especially Ann Hux, Bailey Edwards, and Bailey Clark, for their compassionate care. They would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Clarence’s special friends

Tammy Strickland, Billy Hux, for their love and support during this time.

Clarence’s strong faith, love for his family, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 5, 2025, in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Randy Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 P.M. Friday, April 4, 2025, at the funeral home.

Rest in peace, Clarence. You will forever be loved and remembered.
