Christopher Elizabeth Jernigan Garris

Chris passed away peacefully in her sleep, Friday May 29, 2015, at Rich Square Nursing home.

She was born September 19, 1924 in Lewiston, N.C. to the late Gaither B. and Mary Elizabeth(Betty) Jernigan. Chris was a devoted wife and mother. She worked for many years in the sleepwear industry, Roses Department Stores, and later in the Health care of private individuals. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Red Garris; and her daughter Joyce Poindexter; sons Benjamin Cullipher; Shelbert Cullipher; and John (Chris) Garris. She is survived bya sister Jean Morris and son James Cullipher and daughters, Connie Jones and Tillie Britton.; daughter-in-laws Patricia Cullipher and Lisa Cullipher.Chris. She was known as GrannyPete to her grandchildren, Bet Rees, Denny Winslow, Kenny Cullipher, Carol Whitley, Windy McCarter, Ben Cullipher, David Fellows, Dan Fellows, and James Fellows. In addition she hadeleven Great grand Children andthree great great grandchildren. Services will be Thursday June 4, 2015 at Lewiston First Baptist Church. Viewing isfrom 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm and the Funeral will begin at2:00 pm in the chapel in Lewistion.
