Cheryl Johnson Acrey

Cheryl Lynn Johnson Byrd Acrey, 69, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026, at her home.

Cheryl was born October 27, 1956, in Halifax County to the late Marvin Frankin Johnson and Doris Gray Mason Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her children, Anthony Byrd and Jessica Byrd.

Cheryl graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School class of 1974. She worked as a supervisor for many years at J.P. Stevens and AAA of the Carolina’s. She loved flowers and working in her yard. She loved babysitting her family. Cheryl was very artistic and loved crafting. She was a kindhearted person and to all her grandchildren and nieces and nephews she was known as Mi Mi.

Cheryl is survived by her husband and companion of twenty-five years, Steve Acrey; her granddaughter, Oceanna Byrd; her brother, Sheldon Johnson and his wife Vickie and several uncles, cousins, step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; her stepchildren, Stephanie Acrey Mayer and her husband Mike, Brian Chase and his wife Josie and Aaron Chase;

A Celebration of Cheryl’s life will be held at 6:30 P.M., Thursday, March 26, 2026, in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Jim Cox officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
