Charles Leon Birdsong, 71 of 415 Americus Street, died Friday, September 11, 2009 at Halifax Regional Medical Center. Mr. Birdsong was born May 11, 1938 in Halifax County to the late Millard and Virginia Birdsong.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by two Sisters: Shirley Birdsong Walker, and Betty Lou Woodruff. Mr. Birdsong was a member of The Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church. He attended South Rosemary United Methodist Church for 58 years where he had perfect attendance in Sunday School all 58 years. He loved flying, music and videoing. Mr. Birdsong was an avid western movie fan. He loved his Lord, family and his church, was a history buff, mechanic, a great neighbor and friend to everybody and so much more. He will be greatly missed!! Mr. Birdsong was survived by his wife: Alice Griffin Birdsong of the home; Two Daughters: Lynn Wright of Nashville N.C., Faye Stansbury and husband Alvin of Prince George, VA; Grandchildren: Jimmy Wright of Nashville, N.C., Lindy Iles and husband Dave of Disputanta, VA, Rebecca Gegenheimer and husband Mike of Hopewell, VA; Great granddaughter: Ella Grace IlesBaby Duck of Hopewell, VA; Two Brothers: Johnny Birdsong and wife Shirley of Gaston and Bobby Wayne Birdsong and wife Joan of Roanoke Rapids; Special Nieces and Nephews: Janice and Charles Butts, Vicky and Larry Hardy and Mike Woodruff. Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 14, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Chapel with Rev. Michael Thorne and Rev. J Paul Furrow officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, September 13, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home. Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service is handling the arrangements for the Birdsong family.
