Carlton Rupert “Gunsmoke” Shaw 87, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at ECU Health North Hospital.
Carlton was born January 13, 1938, in Halifax County to the late Rupert Shaw and Clarice Pepper Shaw. Carlton was also preceded in death by the love of his life two months ago and two weeks prior to their sixty-seventh Wedding Anniversary.
Carlton graduated in 1956 from William R. Davie High School. After graduation he achieved his Electrical Contractor’s license and started his own business while working full time with the Halifax County School System. At the start of his career someone gave him the nickname of “Gunsmoke” and it stayed with him for the rest of his life.
Surviving are his daughters Susan S. Riggan (David) of Littleton, NC and Kathy S. Jamison (Dave) of Twinsburg, OH, and his grandson Joshua D. Jamison (Alyxa): his sisters, Vickey Harper of Roanoke Rapids and Judy Conner of Pensacola, Fl.
A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 10, 2025, in Quankie Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Lavelle Waters officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service. Friends may sign the online register by visiting www.hockadayfs.com.
