Birden Lee
Ricks
Jun 3, 1948 — May 12, 2026
Birden “Jimmy” Lee Ricks, 77, of Broadnax, VA, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Mr. Ricks was born on June 3, 1948, in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Josephine Aycock and Spurgeon Ricks. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer Leigh Ricks, and his brothers: Billy, Spurgeon, Jr., Joseph, Gordon, and Michael.
Surviving include his daughter Army COL Mary Ann Ricks (Chuck) of Fort Bragg, and her mother Annette K. Ricks of Roanoke Rapids, his girlfriend Margaret Gauldin of Broadnax, VA, and his beloved dog Little Bit.
He found great joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially fishing, tending his garden with Margaret, time spent at the family’s cottage in Swan Quarter, and taking his loved ones out for pontoon rides on Lake Gaston. He had a special knack for growing the best tomatoes in his garden, something he took great pride in and loved sharing with family and friends. Whether casting a line on the water, working side by side with his daughter and son-in-law on projects around the cottage, or enjoying peaceful evenings cruising the lake with family, he was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved. He also found great joy in riding his tractor and taking his ultimate companion, Little Bit, to get treats.”
