Bill Longmire

Horace Ray “Bill” Longmire, Jr., 85, died Sunday, October 7, 2018 at his residence.

Bill was born in Halifax County on October 24, 1932, the son of Horace Ray Longmire, Jr. and Ruth Longmire.  Bill served in the US Navy.  A chip station operator, Bill retired from Champion in 1998 after 40 years of service.   He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Juanita F. Longmire; daughters, Karen L. Hawkins (V.J.) of Roanoke Rapids, and Tonya L. Simmons (Carl) of Rocky Mount; grandson, Justin V. Hawkins of Roanoke Rapids; sister, Nancy Barnett (Chris) of Abington, VA; several nieces and nephews.  His parents; brother, Ralph; and sisters, Shirley Brown and Ann Taylor preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service on Wednesday morning from 10:00 until 10:45.  The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.  Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.  Pastor Norville Mitchell will preside.
