Betty Avery Byrd

Betty Avery Byrd, 90, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Monday, July 22, 2024, at her home.  She was born October 19, 1933, in Harnett County to the late Rastus Frank Avery and Alene Marie Fields Avery.  She is preceded in death by her husband Wayman Byrd, her son Jerome Lee Byrd, and her sisters Kellon Decaro, Shirley Odom and Nancy Capps.

She was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church.  She loved her church and especially loved her family.

She is survived by her daughter Teresa Byrd Harris, her grandchildren Kellon Michelle Harris and Wendy Jean May, her great grandchildren Tayor Scott Harris and Brittney Aliece Whitby (Trey), her great-great grandchild Daylan James Whitby, her sisters Frankie Avery Allison (Doug) of Clayton, NC and Phyllis Rogers (Carl) of Greensboro, NC, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for the support and loving care they provided.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 11:00AM at Hockaday Chapel with the Rev. D. A. Leonard officiating.  Visitation will be prior to the service starting at 10:00AM at Hockaday Funeral Home.  Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Dunn, NC following the service.
