Bessie Stansbury Bennett, 83, of Goldsboro and formerly of Roanoke Rapids died Saturday, April 18th, 2015 at Countryside Village in Pikeville.
Mrs. Bennett was born January 31, 1932 in Halifax County to the late James Lee and Etta Smith Stansbury. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Mrs. Bennett worked for many years as the secretary of 2nd Baptist Church in Goldsboro. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband C.D. Bennett; and her brothers Willis; Horace; and Alvin Stansbury; and her sisters Betty Lynch; Polly Wilson; Mary Bell; Bell Gray; and a number of brothers and sisters-in-law. Mrs. Bennett is survived by her daughter Angie Bennett Proctor and husband Ted of Wilmington; and her son David Bennett and wife Kathy; and her granddaughter Sarah Bennett all of Goldsboro. Mrs. Bennett is also survived by her sister Katherine Faison; and her brother Roy Stansbury both of Roanoke Rapids; as well as many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 21st, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery, 519 Meherrin Lane Murfreesboro, NC. The family will receive friends Monday, April 20th, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids.
