Bertha Mae Wright Cheek

Bertha Mae Wright Cheek, 91, died Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Vidant Health Center in Greenville, NC.

Mrs. Cheek was born in Halifax County, October 29, 1922, to the late Ernest Wright and Bessie Marks Wright. She was a very religious lady and longtime member at Liberty Pentecostal Holiness Church. She loved her family, and especially loved cooking Sunday dinner for all that gathered at her home. She also loved to go fishing every chance she could. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cheek was preceded in death by her brothers, Cray and William June Liles; sisters, Alice Birdsong, Cora Lou Little and Mary Liles; daughter, Alice Paulette Pagan and granddaughter, Rhonda Linehan.

Surviving is her son, Joe Goddard and wife, Peggy, of Roanoke Rapids and two daughters, June Bounds of Roanoke Rapids, and Debbie Shuman of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Jeff Goddard, Theresa Goddard Floden, Chris Shadrick, Eddie Pagan, Emma Rigenbach, Rodney Dickens, Jody Dickens, Geneva Dickens, Christie Keeter, Joanna Davis, Douglas Schumann, Jonathon Schumann, and Brittany Williams. Also surviving are 37 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 6-8:30 pm. Revs. Tony Smith and Ken Arrington will conduct funeral services in the chapel at Hockaday Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
