Arthur Macon Morris, 85, passed away suddenly on December 3, 2025, from a heart attack while hunting.
Born to Arthur Elmo Morris and Mildred Hawkins Morris of Halifax, NC. Arthur graduated from Weldon High School, attended East Carolina University, and later earned his degree from N.C. State University.
Arthur built a distinguished career as a Paper Mill Superintendent, working with Owens Illinois in Orange, TX, and International Paper Company in Georgetown, SC. He also contributed his expertise to Lindsy Wire Company in Pensacola, FL, Rust International, and Kellog Brown and Root in Birmingham, AL.
A lifelong outdoorsman, Arthur found joy in hunting and fishing. Among his most memorable adventures were in the Yukon Territory of Canada. He cherished time spent outdoors with his son, grandson, brother-in-law, and nephew Dean and Stan Johnson, as well as fishing trips with his daughter.
Arthur’s talents extended beyond the outdoors. A gifted woodworker, he built two impressive boats: the Julie B, an 18-foot wooden sailboat, and The Back 40, a 28-foot houseboat. In later years, he explored watercolor sketching of urban landscapes and even applied his engineering knowledge to write a blog post offering his own solution to the mystery of how the pyramids were constructed.
Travel was another passion. Arthur journeyed to many countries, including China, Indonesia, Mexico, and across Europe. One of his most treasured trips was to Machu Picchu, Peru, with his wife Julie, in celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary.
Arthur is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Julie Cravotta Morris of Birmingham, AL; his son, Arthur Michael Morris; his daughter, Sarah Cherry; son-in-law, Cayce Cherry; grandson, Evan Cherry; sister, Wanda Avery of Jacksonville, NC; brother-in-law, Dean Johnson of Pantego, NC; brother-in-law, Rick Avery of Jacksonville, NC; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Halifax, NC; his sisters, Lois Bridges of Hopewell, VA, and Sandra Johnson of Pantego, NC.
Arthur will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, craftsmanship, his deep love for his family and the beautiful prayers he prayed over them often.
