Anne Margaret O'Neill

July 24, 1945 — May 6, 2025

Anne M. O'Neill, 79, went home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2025 and was surrounded by her adoring family. Anne's love for the Lord and her family were evident until her very last breath.

Anne is survived by her husband, Thomas, and her three children Bethanne Allen (Troy Allen), Kathleen Hugh (Wesley Hugh), and Tommy O'Neill (Julie O'Neill). She is also survived by her beautiful and devoted grandchildren Cassie, Samantha, Aiden, Hannah, Tenley and Marissa.

She was preceded in death by her parents Margaret and Frank Gingo, as well as her sister, Judie Phillips.

Anne was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. She graduated from St. Vincent's High School, where she dated and later married the love of her life. She was an x-ray technologist who began her career in Norristown, PA. She worked in Portsmouth, Va., while Tom was in the Navy. Her work took her to Leesburg, and later Prince William Hospital in Manassas, Va. for 30 years. She retired while working at Greensville Memorial Hospital in Emporia, Va.

She was very active in her church, St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, where she was in charge of fundraising, the annual Bazaar, a member of the Pastoral Council, as well as singing in the choir. She was devoted to helping her husband serve in the Knights of Columbus at the weekly Lenten Fish Fry. No fish fry was complete without Anne's famous cole slaw.

Anne was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Roanoke Wildwood Fire Department. She was also a member of Lake Gaston Ladies Club where she enjoyed pinochle and being the occasional jackpot winner of $2.

Her favorite place to be found was on her boat, with Tom pulling their grandchildren around the lake on any skis, tubes or kneeboards that could be found. She didn't care where we were, as long as we were all together. Anne's family was her greatest love and biggest accomplishment. She loved her children with a passion, but her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved to plan a party and the O'Neill's Annual 4th of July celebration was a time when she was able to express her love language best--Cooking! She loved preparing for the celebration with her "Kitchen Crew" which were some of her dearest friends. Summer time at Grammie's house meant potato salad, fireworks and mom always standing in the kitchen asking, "Did you get enough to eat?"

Anne spent her days making sure her family and friends were happy. Her kindness and genuine care for others was evident to all she met.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Ebony, Virginia. The mass will be followed by the inurnment at the parish columbarium.
