Alton B Capps Sr

Alton B. Capps, Sr., 89, died Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in Guardian Care Nursing Home (Kindred Care) in Roanoke Rapids.

Mr. Capps was born in Johnston County, October 25, 1922, to the late John Ashley Capps and Nora Strickland Capps. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II in the South Pacific. After returning home, he later worked for Champion Paper Mill, where he retired as an electrician after twenty-six years of service. In addition to his parent, Mr. Capps was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Jerry, Jake, Oscar, Johnny, Tommy, and sister, Bessie Carlisle.

Surviving is his wife of sixty-three years, Frances D. Capps, of the home; two sons, Alton B. Buck Capps, Jr. and wife, Susan, of Roanoke Rapids and Ronnie J. Capps and wife, Jenny, of Fayetteville; one daughter, Rosemary C. Jones and husband, Kenneth, of Roanoke Rapids; four grandchildren, Amy Pittman, Jason Capps, Kenneth Jones, and Kevin Jones; three great-grandchildren, Brent Rowland, Alex Capps and Kayleigh Jones. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service from 6-7:30 pm.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Randy Martin, Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery.
