Alton Phillip Brewer, 74, of Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Mr. Brewer was a United States Navy veteran, and a member of Community Center Baptist Church in Halifax.He was a 45-year member of the Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad, a former member of the Gaston Volunteer Fire Department and a lifelong member of the Gaston Rescue Squad.
He was born September 6, 1937, to the late George Alvin Brewer and Annie Elizer Branscomb Brewer.And was also predeceased by a son, Alvin Brewer; a brother, George Brewer, Jr.; and a sister, Marjorie Jordan.
Mr. Brewer is survived by his wife, Mary K. Brewer; his sons: Jeff Rook, of Halifax; Douglas Nelson and wife, Vivian, and Brian Phillip Brewer and wife, Jennifer of Roanoke Rapids; his daughters: Susan Lynch and husband, Jerry, of Roanoke Rapids; Cathy Covert and husband, Bill of Cascade, Virginia; and Sandra Spillane and husband, Paul, of Madison, Alabama; Dawn Tippett and Amy and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 1, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service which is handling the arrangements, conducted by Rev. Aaron M. Pendley.Burial will follow in the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gaston, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, March 31, 2012, from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. and other times at the home of Susan and Jerry Lynch, 818 Henry Street, Roanoke Rapids..
