Alice Maxine Mccrary

Alice Maxine McCrary, 92, of 311 West Highway 158, Roanoke Rapids passed away Friday, May 7, 2010 at her home.

Mrs. McCrary was born November 4, 1917 in Roanoke Rapids to the late Eddie and Dora Hawkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Benjamin E. McCrary; daughter: Nancy M. Burgess; brother: Howard M. Hawkins.

Mrs. McCrary worked for a number of years in the cafeteria at William R. Davie High School, she also worked in the office of J.P. StevensRosemary Mill. She was a lifelong member of Smith United Methodist Church, former Sunday School Superintendant, member of the WSCS and a member of the adult Sunday School Class.

Mrs. McCrary is survived by her son: James E. Jimmy McCrary and wife Bonnie of Suffolk, VA; son-in-law Donald L. Donnie Burgess of Durham, NC; two grandsons: Keith McCrary of Suffolk, VA and Alan McCrary and wife Jenni of Carrsville, VA: two great grandchildren: Ethan and Hannah McCrary.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Smith United Methodist Church with Rev. Curtis Mull officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 11, 2010 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service.
