Alice Virginia Gupton, 84 of Roanoke Rapids passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Virginia was born September 24, 1940, in Martin County to the late Johnny and Alice Barnes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Gupton; her son, Ken Gupton; her granddaughter, Jessica Clay Clements and her siblings Mary Morgan and Frankie Barnes.
Virginia’s Favorite Bible Verse was Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me. AND SHE DID!
She loved God, church, and her family and friends. She found so much joy in helping others and often mentioned that helping others was her ministry. She loved making wreaths, decorating, being on the go and she absolutely cherished her adventures. At the age of 75, she went zip lining in the mountains several months after having heart surgery.
There were a lot of special memories made on camping trips and fishing with the love of her life. After Ray fell ill, she dedicated her time to making sure that not only was he taken care of, but that they continued on with their adventures. She would load up the van with all of his medical equipment along with his scooter and take off which ever way the wind blew. She was extremely strong in her faith and she fought a tough fight with her own health. While she loved everyone, there were two special friends, Gwen McCulley and Vicki Reid that went above and beyond to make sure she got out of the house on a regular basis. She always talked about how blessed she was to have such awesome friends. She will be truly miss and a hole will be left in all of the hearts that loved her.
Virginia is survived by her children, Robin Clay and her husband Frankie and Ricky Gupton and his wife Sherrie; her daughter-in-law, Lisa Gupton and her husband Tim; her grandchildren, John Gupton, Derrick Clay and his wife Crystal, Samantha Griffin and her husband Brett, Tyler Gupton and Luke Clements; her great grandchildren, Logan Clements, Gage Clay, Lyndon Clements and Hazel Griffin; her sister, Diania Blackburn and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 27, 2025, at Harvest Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Tim Bowen officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:30 P.M. at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
