Albert Eugene "Gene" Pittman

Albert Eugene Gene Pittman, 75 of Blue Sky Rd. Halifax, died Friday May 3, 2013 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Pittman was also known to many as Rip. Gene was born October 29, 1937 in Halifax County to the late John Cephus Pittman and Alice Pittman Fleming. He was a generous, giving, smart man who helped everyone. He even took time to help his nieces and nephews with school projects. He loved animals especially his goats, dogs, and chickens. He was the former owner of Pittman Well Company and worked as a sanitarian for Halifax County for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ashley Pittman and Stancil Buck Pittman; and two sisters, Estelle Dickens and Judy Nooney and a niece Deb Weeks.

Mr. Pittman is survived by two brothers James A. Pittman of Roanoke Rapids; and John C. Pittman, Jr. of Wilson. A sister Virginia P. Shell of Petersburg, Va. He is also survived by his nephews, Steve Pittman and wife Debbie of Roanoke Rapids; Keith Pittman and wife Deanna; Stan Pittman, Jr.; and a very special nephew Justin Pittman all of Halifax; Eddie Pittman and wife Seretha; John C. Pittman III and wife Debra all of Roanoke Rapids; Dennis Ray Pittman of Wilmington; James L. Pittman of Alabama; Ricky Nooney of Roanoke Rapids; and Walter Shell and wife Phyllis.His nieces Connie Turner; Gail Nooney; Debra Edmondson; Dee Tucker; Barbara Jones and husband Clint; Cathy Shaw; Gloria Bain; and Tonya Mahaffey and husband Chuck. Mr. Pittman is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews and numerous great-great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service at 1:00 PM, with Rev. Randy Martin, officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 6, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home and all other times at the home of Keith and Deanna Pittman, 814 Blue Sky Rd.
